One Step at a Time

Hey Mobilizers,

It isn't easy to stand up in a crowd, it isn't easy to go against the norm to champion and issue that you are pationate about. Along the way people will shut you down, try to discourage you or simply just not understand. As we set out to make change around the world and here in our own backyards it is important that we remember two things:

1. It's not going to be easy, who ever said it would. Never loose hope because remember that there are always others out there who believe in what your doing and are here to support you.

2. When faced with doubters you have a new task, although it is easy to get frustrated, it is now your job to teach them and help them to understand.

It isn't that anyone in this world doesn't want to make change it is often that they just don't know how or are afraid to try and conquer what seems to be a monstrous task! That is where you, WE, come in. Be it one step at a time to raise awareness for a cause or one We Day dance at a time to bring a smile to someones face. It is those small actions that when combined with great love can and will change this world.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

A big congratulations to everyone who came out with smiles on their faces for the Gulu Walk, this is the kind of thing that is going to make change: small actions with great love (if you can call a walk across Downtown Toronto a small act!)

UP NEXT:

This coming Saturday is a mandatory MOB event for anyone who has not participated in one this year (i.e. the kick-off or the Gulu Walk.) If this means you and you cannot make it, don't worry, but you need to send an e-mail to torontomob@gmail.com

If you have already attended a MOB event this year we totally want you to still come out Saturday! We are going for 100% attendance this Saturday, let's do it!

The Event

GTA here we come!

Hey Mobilizers,

As promised this blog post in going to be filled with lots of amazing ways for you to get involved this month with the MOB! But first off, what another amazing week for Free the Children and Me to We!

You know what were talking about WE DAY Vancouver!!! If you didn't have a chance to watch the live feed, make sure to take the time to check out some of the incredible and inspirational speakers and performers at CTV We Day

Now it's time to get down to business here are two amazing ways that you can give back to Toronto with the MOB:

1. Gulu Walk (Saturday October 23rd)

- The Gulu Walk is an amazing movement started by Athletes for Africa. It's about standing up and raising awareness by walking as far as a Ugandan child would have to walk to escape being kidnapped by child soldier rebels.

We will be starting at Lawrence Park and will be walking all the way to Queen's Park (12:30-4:30pm) for more information and to register (minimum of $10 donation is needed to participate) check out the site below:

www.guluwalk.com/movement (remember to sign-up for the group: Toronto Mobilizers, captain Nandita, anytime after Monday at 9am)

2. Kensington Park Community Clean-Up (Saturday October 30th)

- We will be going down to Kensington Park, to help clean up our Toronto Community. This is going to be a great chance for us to give back and get to know each other in a chill environment. We would like to see you all out there, so please make every effort to come out, it is going to be a great time!

We will be meeting from 1-4pm (location TBA, see next weeks blog post) RSVP as soon as possible to: nat.nan.8@gmail.com

Remember small actions do make a difference, "Never doubt for a minute that you can change the world!" - Al Gore. If you still have your doubts check out this video to see all the amazing things you accomplished last year!  Your Actions, Your Input

Here comes the campaigns: Halloween 4 Hunger is on the way!

Mother Teresa once said "If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one."

Today there are estimated to be over 1 billion people who are living in hunger, hearing that number may make you think that it is an impossible problem to solve. However we must remember what Mother Teresa said we may not be able to help them all on our own but we can help some, on October 31st (and the days surrounding it) the Toronto MOB will be collecting non-perishable food items for local food banks in a campaign called Halloween 4 Hunger (H4H.)

*Details for this project will be announced in the upcoming week along with the details of this months Community Action Event.

Are you a Shameless Idealist?

"Shameless Idealists,” featuring candid discussions with the world’s most intriguing optimists and visionaries, will premiere Monday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. with a special one-hour episode with K’naan.

The premiere episode features a remarkably candid discussion with K’naan about his personal journey from Somalia to Rexdale to international superstardom. He discusses his personal battles, the loss of friends, struggles with depression, how he would like to have a cultural impact in his home country of Somalia and how he defines success. “If I was to be successful, Somalia would be at peace,” he says.

Over the next week we hope you get a chance to catch an episode of Shameless Idealists, enjoy the beautiful fall weather and check out the amazing initiatives by your follow Mobilizers posted below!

- Check out a new project launched by Laura F at her school with the hopes of inspiring others to take care of our world! http://www.350.org/lpci

- Brennan W started an amazing initiative with his sister Shannon called "Strength in Numbers."  Their goal is, by sharing their volunteer experiences with Free the Children, to show that each student wields the "Power of One" and as a group we can accomplish big things! They have approached staff in York Region Elementary Schools and asked them to encourage their students to get involved in FTC projects and campaigns. In the future they plan on giving speeches to these schools!

Way to Be the Change Laura, Brennan and Shannon!
